WAFCON 2026: Super Falcons Still Hungry For More Titles — Abiodun

Date:

Deborah Abiodun says the Super Falcons are determined to add more silverware despite their unrivalled dominance in African women’s football.

Nigeria are the most successful team in the history of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, having won a record 10 titles.

Justine Madugu’s side will be aiming to extend that record by claiming an 11th continental crown when the WAFCON 2026 finals kick off in Morocco next weekend.

Abiodun Upbeat Super Falcons Will Retain Title

Abiodun insisted the team’s hunger for success remains as strong as ever, adding that retaining the title would be a special achievement for the Super Falcons.

“The last title was great, but that’s in the past now. We have to focus on this one,” Abiodun told ESPN.

“It would be great to win again because, as a player, you never get tired of winning.”

Ready For The Big Test

The Super Falcons have been drawn in Group C alongside Malawi, Zambia and Egypt.

Nigeria are widely expected to finish top of the group, but Abiodun insisted the defending champions will approach every game with the utmost seriousness.

She stressed that the team will not underestimate any of their opponents as they begin their title defence.

“Regardless of whether it’s Malawi, Zambia or Egypt, every game is important,” Abiodun added.

“We’re not taking any team lightly, and I’m not underrating any player.

“As the Super Falcons, we’re always trying to make Nigerians proud. That’s our first priority, making Nigerians proud, making our teammates proud and making ourselves proud.

“This WAFCON is very important, especially because there’s World Cup qualification at stake. I don’t think we’re taking any game lightly. It’s going to be fun.”
