Super Falcons lose to South Africa, fail to qualify for 2027 World Cup

Date:

Nigeria will not play at the 2027 Women’s World Cup after they lost 2-1 to South Africa.

The Super Falcons had a second chance to qualify, after they lost in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, WAFCON.

However, following a goalless first half, they were down by two goals after the break.

Thembi Kgatlana and Refiloe Jane both scored to give Bayana Bayana a healthy lead.

Although Christy Ucheibe pulled one back from the spot, there was no time to score an equalizer and take the game to extra time.

This is the first time the Falcons and the Super Eagles have failed to qualify for their respective World Cups at the same time.
