This marked the second consecutive time (and second major instance since their 1994 debut) that Nigeria failed to reach the global stage.

Eagles’ Failure To Qualify For 2026 World Cup

Costly home draws against Zimbabwe and an away draw against South Africa left vital points on the table during the group qualifiers.

A 1-1 draw ending in a 4-3 penalty shootout loss to the Democratic Republic of Congo sealed their elimination.

Garba, who called for early preparation ahead of the World Cup 2030 qualifiers, also urged the players to play with passion when representing the senior national team.

Early Preparation And Motivation Will Be Key For Eagles

“Nigeria is one of the nations with a battalion of talents. We have the players who can win every game at the World Cup,” Garba told Brila FM.

“Preparation and motivation are key for us to qualify for the next World Cup.”

“The government also has a role to play by supplying and doing all it’s supposed to do for the team,” the 60-year-old continued.

“The officials should do their jobs well because players are most happy and motivated when treated and paid properly.”

“The players themselves should also play with their hearts for the country.”
