As the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) dissolved the party’s entire Kano State Working Committee (SWC), the removed State Chairman of the Party Dr. Bello Gambo Bichi, said he accepted the action as his sacrifice for a better PDP.
According to a letter dated Thursday, September 24, 2026, and signed by the PDP National Organising Secretary, Hon. Umar M. Bature, the dissolution was with immediate effects.
However, responding the dissolved Chairman, Dr Bello Gambo, explained that he wholly accepts his removal because it was part of the preconditions laid out by the former State Gubernatorial Candidate Dalhatu who also sacrificed his contest to Muhammad Abacha.
The letter, addressed to the Kano State PDP Chairman and marked “Dissolution of PDP State Working Committee, Kano State”, stated that the decision followed due consultations by the party’s National Working Committee.
“the entire PDP State Working Committee (SWC) for Kano State chaired by Dr. Bello Gambo Bichi is hereby DISSOLVED with effect from the date of this letter,” the letter stated.
However, the national leadership clarified that the dissolution affects only the state working committee, stressing that the party’s Ward and Local Government Area (LGA) working committees remain intact.
“This dissolution affects the State Working Committee ONLY. The Ward and LGA Working Committees are NOT AFFECTED by this dissolution,” the letter stated.
The PDP national leadership further announced that the North West Caretaker Committee would henceforth take charge of the affairs of the Kano State chapter pending the election of a new State Working Committee.
Dr Bello Gambo, hints that the new Electoral act mandated that in the case of changes within Party, the Person to be replaced most put it in written that he agreed in tandem to step down, which Dalhatu did, and also be allowed to gives his personal conditions.
“When we agreed to reconciled PDP in Kano and bring Muhammad Abacha to replace our Candidate, because we believes he is more powerful to go for the seat, Dalhatu gives out some Condition including dissolving my State Executive which I agreed as a sacrifice”, he added.
