JAMB, EFCC celebrate Nigeria at 66, call for continued progress

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have congratulated Nigerians on the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary, calling for sustained progress and nation-building.

JAMB, in a message shared on Thursday, reflected on Nigeria’s transformation over the years, noting that the country had evolved alongside advancements in technology.

The board said its transition from pen-and-paper examinations to computer-based testing reflected the broader changes Nigeria had undergone since independence.

“From pen and paper to keyboards and screens, Nigeria has evolved, and JAMB has evolved with her,” the board said.

JAMB said the Independence Day celebration provided an opportunity to recognise the country’s achievements while looking ahead to its future.

“As we celebrate another year of independence, we honour how far we’ve come and look ahead to all that is still possible,” it added.

The board wished Nigerians a happy Independence Day.

Similarly, the EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, said Nigeria had made considerable progress in nation-building since gaining independence.

Olukoyede, in his Independence Day message, said the country’s independence had provided Nigerians with liberty and self-determination.

“At 66, Nigeria has come a long way. Independence has offered us liberty and self-determination. We are also making considerable progress in nation building,” he said.

The EFCC chairman described the country’s development efforts as significant building blocks for the Nigeria citizens desired.

“All these efforts are significant. They are the building blocks of the greater nation we desire,” he said.

Olukoyede, however, called for the coupling of reform initiatives with a strong commitment to fighting corruption.

“Let’s therefore couple all our reform-focussed initiatives with zero tolerance for corruption. We cannot be building and allow corrupt practices vitiate our efforts,” he said.

He said sustained progress required a deliberate rejection of compromises that could undermine national development.

“Progress only comes with purposeful rejection of compromises. Nigeria will surely get better!” Olukoyede said.
