World Cup 2026: Salah enters list of African players with most goals, assists

Egypt winger, Mohamed Salah, on Monday entered the history books as one of the African players with the most goals and assists combined in the history of the World Cup.

This follows his goal and assist against New Zealand as Egypt came from behind to win 3-1.

According to OptaJoe, Salah now has three goals and two assists in the list of African players with the most goals and assists combined in FIFA World Cup history.

The former Liverpool ace is behind former Ghanaian striker Asamoah Gyan and Cameroon legend Roger Milla in the list.

African players with the most goals, and assists combined in the history of the World Cup:

Asamoah Gyan – (6 goals, 3 assists)
Roger Milla – (5 goals, 1 assist)
Wahbi Khazri – (3 goals, 2 assists)
Mohamed Salah – (3 goals, 2 assists)

Meanwhile, speaking after leading Egypt to beat New Zealand, Salah expressed happiness.

“It’s incredible. It’s a great achievement for all the players, for the staff. We have to enjoy today, enjoy tomorrow, then focus on the next game,” Salah said.
