2027: APM Vice-Presidential Candidate Advocates National Reset Agenda

Date:

The Vice-Presidential candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), Alhaji Lawal Musa Daura, has called for an inclusive approach to governance, saying Nigeria needs a national reset to address its political, economic and security challenges ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Daura, a former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), said his decision to join politics was motivated by his desire to contribute to national development and address misconceptions about politics in Nigeria.

He explained that his years of experience in public service had given him insights into the country’s challenges, adding that he believed he could contribute more by participating directly in the political process.

Daura acknowledged that the APM was still building its national presence but expressed confidence that the party was expanding its reach and strengthening its organisational structure.

He said the party’s appeal would depend not only on its policies but also on its ability to communicate its message effectively to Nigerians.

Addressing concerns about his decision to pursue the vice-presidential ticket rather than a Senate seat, Daura argued that Nigeria’s current security challenges required urgent attention. He also expressed reservations about the ability of the National Assembly to resist undue influence from the executive arm of government.

The former DSS chief maintained that lawmakers needed sufficient independence and support to exercise their constitutional responsibilities effectively.

On the APM’s policy direction, Daura said the party was promoting a “reset agenda” aimed at breaking what he described as a recurring cycle of political problems, corruption and limited national progress.

He explained that the agenda would involve bringing together different stakeholders to discuss the country’s future and agree on a more inclusive approach to governance.

According to him, a government formed under the proposed arrangement would seek to provide opportunities for wider participation rather than operate on a winner-takes-all basis.

Daura also disclosed that the party was participating in discussions on a possible political coalition, adding that efforts were being made to bring different groups together and reach an agreement.

He said the objective was to develop a shared understanding of how Nigeria should be governed and to encourage broader participation in the country’s political future.

As political parties prepare for the 2027 general elections, Daura’s remarks highlight the APM’s stated strategy of expanding its national presence, promoting an inclusive governance agenda and exploring coalition arrangements with other political groups.
